Has it been a year?
Last May I traveled to Los Angeles. Just one show booked. Now what you
may or may not know is that others who do what I do, do not toodle across the country for one show unless you are The Rolling Stones.
Ahh yes, The Rolling Stones - Ruby Tuesday.
We were all just touring bands and performers...
Then the Stones made that deal with Beelzebub.
And I just couldn't. Might've been the part about signing in blood.
Selling your soul? Well, the concept was a bit more vague then than it is to me now. But still I couldn't. Yes yes, LOL :-) ha ha :)))
So a year has passed and I have been in a suitcase traveling with my soul more evident than ever, as my body endures through the rigors of living. At times it's only been the heart and soul that demands my body survive.
I have changed my mind many times but the heart and soul persist, hence you've got it...
Melanie and thanks to you my dear ones, I persevere. Driven by planes, automobiles, that bicycle in my head…
And God knows what all, I go on. And this time it's homeward bound! Sounds lovely doesn't it?
You're picturing, I'm picturing, a cottage, perhaps a thatched roof one with larkspurs and pine trees, a little fruit grove.
Perhaps a brook down a grassy knoll, where I'll take off my shoes and socks and wade knee-deep in running water!
Hmmm, not exactly. And now I've made myself cry. I am homesick for
that elusive home, far away from everything. Yet still I will go home.
I will take off again May 10 for New York this time, my old haunt, The Turning Point in Piermont. On the Hudson River! Next town over, Nyack.
Let's take a trip to Niagara this time we'll look at the fall….
Let's take a kayak to Quincy or Nyack ~ let's get a way from it all!
Do you know that song? Anyone?
I am so grateful I grew up with songs, real songs by Gershwin, Cole
Porter, Lerner & Loewe.
Songs with melody and real lyrics, which in my teens had a little too much cheese for my taste.
But now I am grateful and pay homage to their influence and "source.”
And this might just be the crux of it. There is very little homage to source.
Homage is paid to 'programs' like Garage Band, Maximo. Where all one does is press a button! Or a key on the keyboard and it plays arpeggios or full on incidental scores.
And of course tracks on so-called hit records!
Yes, artificial intelligence robots are replacing humans EVEN in music!
One thing a computer cannot do is create a melody or lyrics that allow a deep look into another universe. And thus I still have a job.
Now projecting which I tend to do. (I could've been a chess player)
Diminishing the art of music has created an adverse effect in the Human world. People are growing up with less then musical composition and creation ~ but it is successful so that becomes the goal and influence. Poor role models for people, creating a decline in quality.
Awareness is our only defense, against mediocrity.
“Melanie, what are you on about? I'm sorry, my preoccupation. I'm a 'watcher’ and feel the need to report to you, my dear ones, on my way home.

Almost went to England but I guess that doesn’t count :(

I'll look out across the lake and reminisce about
'Lake days, long ago and far away, yet closer than the day before yesterday'
