Through all the arts runs the same thread
A winter's stage
A very seasoned performer said, as she stood on a winter stage: ' hey, if you're working in January you're doing great!'
I am not working in January, I am recuperating from time that has been traveling faster then I.
Going ahead even.
Leaving me ill prepared for the cold~ my tanned skin agrees: time has finally made a clearly visible mistake!
And I know you all know of that which I speak!
Time keeps on slipping into the future~ I want to fly like an eagle, Steve Miller from the 60s, as he slipped into the future as I do, only I go kicking and screaming.
I'm finding clues observing telltale signs.
Art is the first to go.
"Pushing envelopes"~ Using that term for supposedly bringing up the rear to a new exciting inventive expression but only the words say it, "it" isn't walking the walk!
I read something in an art magazine that halted me motionless. I read it again. Could it be possible that in a magazine that touts itself as one that is letting the public in on the art scene that these words appeared?
"Somewhere, somehow, anywhere, pencil it (an artist's statement) on the wall or print out copies for people to take. We are long past the era in which ones art could "speak for itself."
The spiral is a dwindling ~up up against the rising tide of conformity. I cry out: Yes, in 2016, not 1966!!! Disguised as nonconformity even avant guard, even intellectual.
This is a quote from a highly respected installation artist:
" The idea of isolation and interaction is linked to the contradictions surrounding familial relationships as well as societal differences and how these variations affect individual and group responses to themes of beauty, the body and identity"
There must be art terminology, that unless you are an art student is unfamiliar and can be confused as in wine terminology. "Crisp", generally used to describe white wines only~ so one should never use crisp in describing a red. Or say "complexity", the number of different flavor elements. Not that the term evokes, provokes complex thinking or indicates a puzzling quality, as one might think if not familiar with wine speak.
Now you can mix up the words and it means the same thing, or the same nothing, ie: individual responses to societal differences and contradictions surrounding familial relationships. Yes, this is true it's all nonsense. And everyone is afraid to say it.
"The emperor’s new clothes" and the little boy says: 'he's not wearing any clothes!'
And everyone begins to see! Up up against the rising tide of conformity coming from such unexpected places.Hense, isolation, interaction linked to contradiction surrounding familial relationships. We are dealing with language directed at a particular market impressing them of the validity of spending $500,000 on a 40 foot "installation"(another word that pops up in art speak).
I find it funny, funny ha ha and funny peculiar.
I wonder if the first person who referred to an art work as an installation was making a joke andwas overheard by some pseudo-intellectual member of the art community thought "bingo!! his current installation" blah the blah and etc.
Usually those big "installations" are works that every other person could do but don't bother, because they don't have the terminology down or the funds and financing to install it!
Well of course, it's good for people to know little bit about what you were thinking and what inspired the creation, but for the work not to speak for it self, clearly means it hasn't spoken, but it does have body and is crisp so it must be a white Zinfandel.
Happy New Year
and may this be a year of awakening
Just came across this:
"In order to show at such a gallery you and your art have to be a total match. The quality of your art is only one step in the process. There's also your resume, your reputation, your accomplishments, your profile and standing in the art community, how you are to work with, your previous sales history, the quality of critical reviews of your past shows, and much more" .
Q & A with Melanie
Q: How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll pop Tootsie? (Okay sports fans I got the info right here. The 411 Purdue University actually did a study to find out 364 licks that will get you to the center of a Tootsie Roll pop Tootsie)
Melanie: Thank you for telling me that.I probably won't remember the answer if it should pop into conversation. But it's good that somebody knows these things.
When I was a child a Tootsie Roll pop was a real treat. They were purchased individually, you picked your flavor, they didn't sell them in bulk like they do now,,or in bags for Halloween trick-or-treat. And I do remember the lollipop part was thicker and it took a lot longer to get to the Tootsie Roll. I had great patience in this. I would lick and lick and when it got to that fine fine layer right before the Tootsie Roll I would bite down, a crunch, and then into the chewy chocolatey center. The lollipop part now doesn't have that boiled sugar thing going on.
And there was a detail of a band around The pop itself. Does the pop still have a band around it?
Cherry and grape were my favorite flavors
Who could have thought of such a concoction?
Anyway...I'm just days away
Q: Melanie, how do you protect your voice? I'm sure you do vocal exercises but I've had laryngitis for two weeks and with all the germs and ick out there, how do you protect your incredible voice?
Melanie: Thank you for the compliments,I don't pay much attention to my voice, except when I'm using it. It's gone to hell and come back so many times.
I was once told by a prominent throat specialist that I had nodes, and needed surgery. He showed me photos. Surely, I said those must be someone else's nodes! That was 38 years ago, I never did go back to get them removed. Melanie's mislabeled nodes, are probably in a jar of formaldehyde, perhaps for sale on eBay!
Q: How would you like to have one of your songs in a movie?
Melanie: Of course it depends on how they use the song.
For instance " Boogie Nights" just might have been a funny surprise, when roller girl, Mark Wahlberg, and me, in voice and song were right there in bed with them, had I not been with six of Beau Jarred's friends when they were all about 12 years old!! The popcorn went flying, the whole theater heard the sniggering boys, and I had a lot of explaining to do to the parents!!!
Q: If you hadnt become the Greatest singer ..and joined the peace corps instead....where would you be today???....
Melanie: If...if and if. This is one of the things that is not knowable.
It would be fun to be able to run it through and play it out ...
Melanie joins the peace corps helps to purify water in some small village falls into the water and drowns.
Or Melanie joins the peace corp

Q: Why are you just days away from knowing everything? That concerns me 😯
Melanie: Why does it concern you? Is it because it's going to take a few more days? Or is it that a person such as myself might be one who knows everything?
Now what I will tell you is some times I've had the sensation of knowingness. It happens especially after a creation, a song that I feel really nailed it.
And the sky opens up and inhabits my whole being. It is not a thinking thing, it is a feeling thing. And perhaps at that moment I really do know everything, but then it's gone and I sense I will catch up to my knowingness ... Just days away
Q: What is the average air speed velocity of an unladen swallow ??
Melanie: I could find this out but why? What I 'm most interested in is what the swallow is carrying when she is not unladen. These are things I am just days away from knowing. And I do have a clue about what the swallow is carrying. It looks like a little crystal hanging from a gold ring, but again I am just days away;-)
